Reusable plastic logo cups help make your event even more successful

Simplicity, durability, minimalism, compactness and convenience – for all these reasons, plastic cups are commonplace everywhere. With a beautiful custom design, a regular cup can be turned into something unique and stylish very easily. Think about the possibilities of using different kinds of designs. For example, create 5-10 different custom plastic cups that have varying colours and text. In this way, customers will take notice of your brand even more, as each cup is something different.

Reusable plastic cups are durable, highly practical, safe for customers and comfortable to hold. If you choose them for handing out drinks, you do not have to worry about your customers getting an injury – glass, however, is a real nuisance when it breaks, and can be very dangerous in certain situations. Stock up on reusable plastic cups and make sure that your event will be a success – a completely positive experience for your customers, in all aspects.

Reusable cups are often brought home, where they become an everyday item. Once it is in their possession, your customers will present your environmentally friendly and practical solution to their friends and acquaintances as well: several of them will be potential customers. What a great way to propagate an environmentally conscious lifestyle! Logo cups are easy to transport, and they will end up outside of the home as well, for example at the office. Furthermore, as they check out your reusable cup, it is possible that you will even inspire someone to establish an eco-friendly business in the future.

For the following occasions and companies, reusable custom plastic cups are an especially promising idea:

  • All kinds of summer outdoor events and sports events where cold drinks are distributed and sold. On a hot day, customers will buy a nice refreshing beverage with your company logo cup. They will continue to associate your business with the pleasant experience of cooling down.
  • If you are participating in a business convention or organizing one yourself, with the objective of raising awareness of your brand.
  • Restaurants that offer drinks for home delivery; in such delivery services, deposit systems for plastic cups are becoming increasingly popular.
  • Sports facilities and office buildings that wish to offer their customers and guests something more professional than plain plastic cups, in water coolers and in-house cafeterias.
  • Universities and other academic organizations that wish to expand their reach outside their facilities.
  • If you are organizing a larger BBQ party or summer days for your company, for example – it is a great idea to stock up on reusable plastic cups, so that you already have some ready for the next event.

The benefits of PP plastic

Our reusable cups are made from durable PP plastic. You do not have to worry about any cracks that leak. PP cups are much more resistant to damage than single-use plastic cups.

PP is a light plastic with high resistance to fracturing. It is best suited for cold drinks, as it has low heat transfer properties and keeps the drinks nice and cold. PP is non-toxic and safe to drink from. Cups made from it are not porous and do not release harmful substances, so they are safe to wash. As a rule, PP cups are translucent, which leaves a nice visual effect, especially when they contain a cold drink.

PP cups are a great option from an environmental perspective, too. On average, they are used 75 times. Even if you include the costs of washing and transportations, studies have shown that they are more environmentally friendly than single-use plastic cups in all scenarios, given that they are reused at least 3-10 times (studies differ on the exact number of a break-even point, as it is dependent on the consumer behaviour of the participants of the study).

Reusing plastic is a highly important part of protecting the environment

How can we reduce the amount of plastic waste? Facing this problem with adequate solutions is becoming a more pressing issue by the day.

Simply take a look around you. Rivers, lakes, fields, roadsides, landfills and all kinds of other places are littered with plastic cups, bottles and packaging. Not only is this seriously polluting the environment and visually appalling; each plastic item thrown on the ground is a complete waste of recyclable material. It is a reminder that non-renewable resources have simply been discarded.

A significant amount of all trash strewn on beaches worldwide consists of plastic cups. As they float around in the oceans, they pose a grave danger when ingested by sea life, thereby lowering biodiversity. Because of plastic pollution, industrial fishing takes a big hit too. Fishing industries and people employed there are suffering, including those who depend on fishing daily for survival. All sorts of lids, covers, straws etc. only make the problem worse.

It is truly depressing that the demand for plastic is still rising, and it is being produced more and more each year. This means that we need to find alternatives really quickly and implement them wherever possible, as fast as we can. Would it not be wonderful if we could clear the seas, forests, ponds and other natural wonders from plastic trash!

In this regard, it is important to target widespread wasteful consumer behaviour that is devastating to the environment. We must think about ways to do our part in reducing the need for non-renewable resources and protecting natural habitats.

Our priority must be to change consumer behaviour into a circular model built around reuse and recycling. This means that new plastics should be manufactured as little as possible and old plastic items reused and recycled as much as possible.

Reusable PP plastic cups are beneficial for the environment, but individual consumer behaviour also plays a role

To find out the environmentally positive effect of reusable plastic cups, several thorough scientific studies have been conducted. To start, it is worth saying that all reusable cups are more environmentally friendly than single-use cups on a wide scale, regardless of their material; this includes reusable paper cups and other plastics than PP. That said, it does not really matter what material the reusable cup was made from, if it is simply thrown away by the careless consumer anyway, does it?

Study results have shown that the lifespan of a reusable plastic cup varies significantly: some cups are reused 10 times, others 670 times, for example. In theory, some plastic cups could be reused up to 3000 times. The durability of the cup is mostly affected by the specific dishwasher – the water temperature, washing liquid and size of the dishwasher, also the thickness of the cup walls and so on.

In recent times, dishwashers have become a lot more efficient than they were decades ago, requiring much less water. The ecological impact is smallest when the dishwasher is working at full efficiency, which means that it is as full of cups as possible and the washing program is set to a medium-to-low temperature, as heating water takes up most of the electricity. Actually, one of the best options is to wash the reusable cups by hand with cold water in the sink.

It must also be taken into account how much electricity the specific household consumes in total, and how that electricity is generated.

For example, in the United States, researchers conducted an environmental impact study that showed surprising results. Households participating in the study split into two groups, depending on the origin of the electricity they used for operating their dishwashers. For 68% of the participants using renewable energy, washing reusable PP-cups was always an environmentally friendly choice, however many times they washed the cups. For 32% of the participants using fossil fuel based energy, the environmental impact of washing PP-cups depended on the specific model of dishwasher and the washing program. For those households who consumed the most energy daily, it pretty much made no difference whether the reusable cup was in the dishwasher or trash bin, as their huge carbon footprint simply cancelled out any possible gains resulting from reusing any cups.

Once again, the more times the cup was washed, the smaller became the negative counter-effect caused by dishwasher electricity consumption. In the long run, a reusable cup that is washed 300 times will be significantly more environmentally friendly than a cup that is washed only 10 times.

Here is another statistical example: each year, the average sports stadium hosts about 300 events. In total, visitors use about 5,4 million disposable plastic cups. This creates a whopping 63,75 tons of plastic waste annually. If a stadium were to replace their disposable cups with reusable PP-cups and reuse them 300 times on average, the plastic waste would be reduced to less than a ton.

As stated above, all reusable cups (including ceramic, stainless steel, glass etc) have a smaller CO2 footprint than single-use cups (may they be paper, PET, EPS, PP, PLA, laminated cardboard or others). Researchers have a differing opinion only about the number of times the cup should be washed and reused in order to reach a clear break-even point in comparison to a single-use cup. In Great Britain, one study showed that the plastic cup should be reused about 21 times before it is more environmentally friendly than a single-use paper cup. Other studies, however, have shown that reusable cups are more beneficial for the environment in all cases, meaning that they win the comparison basically automatically. It all depends on the country in which the study is conducted, the consumer culture in that country, and how waste disposal is handled on a local level, which includes legislation, recycling containers and so on.

In conclusion

Switching to reusable cups can be a complicated process in some business sectors, which is completely understandable.

For example, restaurants are widely known to be a high-stress environment. Most of them have a habit of throwing away trash as quickly as possible, in order to stay efficient – there are simply too many clients to reuse certain containers.

However, giving the issue some thought, it becomes clear that restaurants can actually save money and offer their customers a more valuable service if they were to replace disposable plastic cups with reusable ones.

In all fields of business, it still rings true that switching to reusable plastic cups will be an important addition to our common efforts to protect the natural environments which are essential to us all.
